Rubbish day will aid Cairo dump kids
LIVING with a Rubbish is the title of a free family fun day taking place in Romsey next month.
The event, at the Abbey hall on Saturday, October 4, is being organised by Abbey United Reformed Church with the support of Test Valley Borough Council's Environment & Health Service.
It will be an opportunity to learn about how we deal with our waste and recycling in Hampshire.
The event will also raise awareness of the plight of children in Cairo, who struggle to survive on rubbish dumps.
The young people of Abbey URC are raising money for the Salaam Children's Medical Health Care Centre in Cairo, which supports the children by providing vitamins, medical treatment and food parcels.
Organiser Carole Cox said: "As the focus of the children's chosen charity this year is rubbish, we wanted to hold a community event on this subject. We are delighted that Test Valley agreed to help us and we are very excited by the programme for the day."
The event, which will run from 10am to 4pm, will include art and craft workshops(using recycled materials) a paint-a-bag activity, a treasure hunt, a puppet show and workshop, cookery demonstrations showing how to use leftovers, advice on composting and displays from the Hampshire Air Ambulance on textile recycling.
A soup and ploughman's lunch, priced £5, will be available on the day and Bookings are being taken for lunch.
There will be a coin collection for the charity so fill an item of rubbish like a jam jar, yogurt pot or Smarties tube with coins and bring it with you.
