Film society’s new season
A NEW season of films showcasing the best in world cinema starts at The Screen in Winchester next week.
A seven-month run of fortnightly screenings, arranged by Winchester Film Society, kicks off on Tuesday (October 7) with The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
Other highlights for the 2008-09 season include screenings of Michael Moore's Sicko, a German/Turkish film called The Edge of Heaven and Ahlaam, a ground-breaking movie about life in Iraq in 2005.
The film society is hopeful of building on last year's success. Its membership has jumped by 25 per cent over 2007's figures.
"We put extra effort into the process of choosing the 16 films for the season, and we have been pleased with the results," said chairman, Mathew Peters.
