Bungled break-ins
BUNGLED break-ins at properties including the Hillier Gardens and Mottisfont Abbey have prompted police to warn the owners of buildings in the countryside to make sure their security is also up to standard.
Burglars forced the doors of a stable block at Mottisfont Abbey in the early hours of Tuesday morning, but were unable to steal anything.
The previous day, an attempt had been made to lift gates off their hinges at the Hillier Gardens but it proved unsuccessful.
There was also a failed break-in at a commercial premises on the Budds Lane industrial estate when gates were lifted off their hinges some time between Saturday and Tuesday, but again nothing was taken.
In villages outside Romsey, sharp-eyed residents and neighbours prevented raiders from breaking in.
Two men made off empty-handed after being disturbed when they tried to force their was into an outbuilding at Lee last Thursday and another bungled burglary came to an end at Whinwhistle Road, East Wellow when the offenders were spotted by neighbours in the early hours of Monday morning.
Anyone who saw any suspicious activity which could have been linked to those incidents is asked to contact Romsey police on 0845 045 45 45
