Boy injured in Landford crash
A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was rushed to hospital with severe injuries after a collision which closed the A36 at Landford for almost six hours on Monday.
He was a rear seat passenger in an eastbound Citroen Saxo car which was stationary while its driver waited to turn right into New Road at around 7.30am.
The Saxo was struck from behind by a silver-coloured Vauxhall Vectra travelling in the same direction and police and fire and rescue services from Hamsphire and Wiltshire dashed to the scene.
The teenager was first taken to Salisbury District Hospital after being released from the car by firefighters from Wiltshire, who were assisted by a crew from Romsey, but was later transferred to Southampton General because of the nature of his injuries.
Police set up diversions via the A27 through Sherfield English and Whiteparish and closed the A36 through Wellow and Landford until 2pm. The driver of the Vectra was interviewed on suspicion of dangerous driving.
