‘Shooting Stars’ is the debut album by Australian / British duo Freewinder - Russell Chandler (instrumentation, arrangements) and Clive Godwin (lyrics, arrangements) who, five years ago, discovered a shared love of music whilst working as IT consultants in London. On ‘Shooting Stars’ they feature the pure and effortless vocals of US based Kara Grainger, a vocalist whose own solo career has garnered Radio 2 support and finalist status in Billboard's 2005 international song writing competition.
The album is a collection of adult contemporary pop songs, part acoustic chill out part summery singer-songwriter confessional. Light and airy on its surface the record is underpinned by Clive’s heartfelt and intelligent lyrics and Russell’s deft instrumentation.
The title track and lead single ‘Shooting Stars’, a bright and feel-good song, has already been picked up by Radio 2’s Steve Wright whose colleague Johnnie Walker previously championed the Bowie inspired ‘David Jones’. Lyrically each song paints a perfect picture, be it about love lost or what is still to come, and there is definitely more to this album than just boy meets girl.
Russell and Clive are an unlikely twosome - best of friends yet poles apart they are indeed like polar opposites that have to co-exist to work. Indisputably it does work and it was their joint vision and self belief that led Russell to give up his day job to finish mixing the album, set up the label and project manage the release whilst Clive continues to work as a business consultant to fund the label for their debut, and fully independent, record.
