Friendship funds given a £500 lift
COUNTY Councillor for Romsey Extra Roy Perry has agreed to grant £500 to the Woodley and Crampmoor Friendship Club to help with their costs in transporting elderly members to the fortnightly meetings of the club.
The money is coming from the £10,000 fund all county councillors have been allocated for Community Development.
The Friendship Club meets fortnightly in the Woodley Village Hall and has more than 40 members.
Roy Perry said: "I am full of admiration for the work done by the organisers of this club especially the chairman Mrs Marion Nation of Romsey and the President - the redoubtable Doris Bunting.
"It was Mrs Bunting who alerted me to the problems the club was experiencing with transport costs following the ill thought through ramifications of government changes to the fare pass scheme."
"Clubs like that in Woodley and Crampmoor make such an important contribution to the well being of elderly people who often lead isolated lives. I am determined that those who no longer have their own transport should still be able to get to the club. We are fortunate in Romsey to have the Test Valley Community Transport service but with ever increasing costs they need to make some charge for their service. I can think of few more beneficial uses for my community fund and I hope this £500 contribution will ease some of their worries"
